I really like this line because it is another play on words, a homophonic pun, which Stein is well known for. Mourning is a state of expressing depression and/or sorrow, usually about the loss of someone or something. Typically people mourn more in the morning because it is right when they wake up and they begin to think about everything all at once. “Mourn in the morning” is a clever play on homophones that also implies a juxtaposition about human emotions and life; Morning implies a new beginning and the coming of a new life, while mourning implies the loss of someone/thing or an ending.
