"revolving mimes/ of the encroaching Eros/ in adolesence" - Eros, the Greek god of desire. The men in the place are mimes (or silent, satirical clowns) of Eros, the counterpart to Cupid- here they are both displayed in adolecence, or immaturity. These players let the music speak, being mimes in a sense that they are not speaking, but simply "revolving" and conducting. They can be said to "encroach" on the crowd as well as their music (jazz) on to the norm of society.
