Stein continues her discussion about sweet things and it is interesting that she uses the words “peaches” and “pears.” Peaches are viewed as being erotic fruits because of how they become juicy when you bite into the flesh while pears are fruits that are meant to represent women and their bodies. Gertrude Stein is a known lesbian and parts of this poem has been thought to be about one of her lovers.
