There is now more ambiguity as the speaker gives us the image of a peacock's tail in the fire. By combining the images, the speaker becomes more unreliable and the poem becomes even more unclear. The peacock feathers would be engulfed and destroyed by the flames. The pretty colors would be burned to ash, black ash. This connects back to the title of the poem, "The Domination of Black." The colors of the tail will eventually be dominated by black ash. Anything that is thrown in the fire will be turned to black ash. And finally, once the fire ceases to exist, all that will be left is black ash.
